Hummingbird Postersfrom Charting Nature/Windsor Nature Discovery
The Hummingbirds of North America poster ( 24" x 36"; above, left) is what your garden might look like if (1) you planted all the right flowers, and (b) our thirteen best-known species of hummingbirds all decided to transcend their normal geographical distribution and meet at your place for dinner. This print is a richly-textured hummer overload that will reclaim your attention every time you see it. Hummingbirds of the United States and Canada (23" x 35"; above, right) is a more Audubonesque depiction of our sixteen breeding species (no Xantus') plus four of the most common non-breeding visitors, grouped around typical hummer-favored plants. These paintings are nearly sufficient to help you ID most species, at least the males, although no single image is a substitute for a collection of field guides and a bit of experience. Both posters are very nicely printed (remember, I'm a graphic designer) on heavy art paper, and are available plain (US$14.95), laminated (US$18.95), or framed (US$99.95). I think either or both would make lovely gifts. Windsor Publications is well known for their other wildlife posters, especially the trout ID series, examples of which grace the walls of almost every fly shop I've ever visited.
